Epcot Hid a Bar Inside Spaceship Earth. Here's What $26 Cocktails Get You.

We finally used a reservation at GEO-82, the adults-only lounge tucked into Spaceship Earth. The short version: the room is immaculate, the view is the best in Epcot, and the $26 cocktails are a mixed bag.

The room and the view

The vibe is immaculate. Everything is sleek and quietly futuristic in a way that fits its address inside Spaceship Earth, and it feels like a high-class cocktail bar that happens to be bolted to the most recognizable structure in the park. This is a 21-and-up space, and it shows: calm, unhurried, grown up. After a day on Epcot pavement, that alone is worth something.

Then there is the view. The windows look straight down World Celebration Gardens toward World Showcase, and it is undeniably great, the kind of view of the park you otherwise only get in concept art. We sat there in the middle of the afternoon and had a hard time leaving it.

What we drank

Brûlée Banana Highball ($26) was always going to be our order. As a crème brûlée connoisseur, seeing a torched, sugar-crusted banana slice perched on the big ice cube sealed it. The drink underneath is Japanese whisky with sherry, banana, coffee, and cacao, and it is strong. Maybe a bit too strong for our liking: the booze runs ahead of the dessert flavors, and we wanted it to taste a little more like its garnish.

Peach Shrub Whiskey Smash ($26) was Hayley's pick, and she won this round. It has the right amount of sweetness, drinks easy, and comes with a tiny cracker of peach preserves and mascarpone on the side, which is a small touch that makes the price sting a little less. If you are only having one drink here, make it this one.

What we ate

The charcuterie board was excellent, the best thing on our table by a wide margin. It is a proper spread: cheeses, cured meats, honeycomb, preserves, cornichons, and a stack of toasts and crisps. The goat cheese with honey was the star for us; we love goat cheese, and that combination had us going back until the board was picked clean. Between two people it works as a real snack, not a garnish, and it is what we would build a return visit around.

The fireworks move

Here is the tip we wish we had used: go late. We had an afternoon reservation, and the view is lovely in daylight, but the last regular reservations of the night (around 7:30 to 8:00pm) can stay through Luminous The Symphony of Us. You will not get the prime window seats, because those are held for the separate GEO-82 Fireworks Experience, which runs $179 per person. But watching Epcot's fireworks from inside Spaceship Earth on the price of a cocktail is one of the better deals in a lounge that otherwise has none.

Reservations are the way in either way. We booked ahead in My Disney Experience and walked past a line of people hoping for walk-up space.

Is it worth it?

At $26 a cocktail, GEO-82 is priced like the view comes in the glass. For a special occasion, an anniversary, or a fireworks nightcap, it earns it: the room is beautiful, the service is polished, and there is nothing else like it in Epcot. As an everyday stop it is harder to justify, and the one cocktail we were most excited about was the one we liked least. We would go back, but later in the day, with the smash and the charcuterie board on the table.
